These courses emphasize learning through practice and students will use the elements and principles of design to produce expressive artwork using a variety of materials (drawing, painting, clay, textiles, printmaking, illustration, and more). They will analyze their won work and that of others, and study art from various time periods and cultures.

Anyone can learn how to draw! In this course, talented artists
will improve their skills and others will learn techniques that
will open the door to visual expression. Students will do projects
of personal and cultural relevance. They will have an opportunity
to explore many different media and fine art techniques such as
drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture and mixed media. As well,
students will examine the art of various time periods and cultures
as it relates to their studio assignments.

This course allows students personal expression related to topics
of their choice through studio activities using a variety of materials.
They will also look at artwork produced by their peers and professional
artists from Canada and other world cultures.

grade 12 (2012-2013) must take AWS3M0 in grade 11.

Students will further develop their skills and knowledge in visual
arts by exploring a range of subject matter through studio activities
such as acrylic and watercolour painting, sculpture using a variety
of materials, multi-media, and installation. Students will also
analyze art works and study aspects of art and art forms from various
parts of the world.

Prerequisite: AVI3O0 or AVI3M0
This course focuses on the refinement of students’ skills
and knowledge in visual arts. Students will use theories of art in
analyzing and producing art and will increase their understanding
of stylistic changes in modern and contemporary art from around the
world. Students will produce a body of work emphasizing a personal
approach, and produce a portfolio suitable for application to an
Arts program at the post-secondary level. Students opting for this
course should have already taken AVI3M0. |
