These courses emphasize performance of instrumental music, or music
created on computers. Student
learning will include participation in creative activities and listening
perceptively. Students will also be required to develop a thorough understanding
of the language of music, including the elements, terminology and history.
Instrumental Music, Grade 9, open

Always wanted to learn how to play an instrument? Talented musicians,
and others new to playing, will learn techniques to enhance their
music performance skills. Students will perform in large group,
small group, and solo settings. They will perform a variety of
styles including pop, jazz, blues, classical and folk music from
various cultures. No previous musical experience is required.

Whether you’re an accomplished musician or have no musical
training, you’ll be quickly recording your own songs. Use
pre-recorded loops, plug in a piano keyboard or guitar — or
even sing — and make your own track, add all of the other
instruments digitally then mix your song on computer. Save your
work as MP3 files to CD or iPod. You will also learn to understand
written music and write your own compositions. Piano keyboard skills
are useful but not necessary. |

This course will develop students’ understanding and appreciation
of music through practical and creative work. Students will continue
to develop their performance skills by working in a variety of ensembles
within the class. Students will also learn to identify and apply
specific techniques required to perform various styles of music.
This course also emphasizes listening skills and will give students
the required terminology to discuss both recorded and live performances
in detail. |

Prerequisite: AMU3M0
This course will develop students’ understanding and appreciation
of music through practical and creative work. Students will continue
to develop their performance skills by working in a variety of ensembles
within the class. Students will also study in depth the techniques
required to compose music in a variety of music styles. Listening
skills will be further developed through the analysis of recorded
and live performances. |
