General Science

The study of general science provides students with an opportunity to learn, to experience and to explore the basics that they'll need for their future. Turner Fenton offers a broad base of knowledge through these courses, such that a student can learn to investigate possible futures. The many branches of science a student can enter will allow them to discover much about themselves, the human race, and the world that surrounds them.

Science, Grade 9, Basic

Code: MST 1WO

This course is the most basic science course available. Gives a basic introduction to the many sciences.

Environmental Science, Grade 10, General

Code: SEN 2GO

This is an extension of general science that focuses specifically on aspects of the environment such as the food chain and the water cycle.

Science, Grade 10, Advanced

Code: SNC 2AO/E

This course enables students to develop a deeper understanding in the concepts of biology, chemistry, earth and physics. As well it will develop further their skills in scientific inquiry and allow them to understand the interrelationships among science, technology, and the environment.

Science, Grade 11, Basic

Code: SCN 3BO

Students learn the chemistry of consumer products. Other units of study include science and law enforcement, metallurgy and the study of microorganisms.

Environmental Science, Grade 11, General

Code: SEN 3GO

Topics include energy, plant science, wildlife biology, stream ecology, landscaping and forestry. This is a course that applies knowledge to the real world. Fieldwork is a mandatory component.

Science, Grade 12, General

Code: SCN 4BO

Students focus on the wise use of energy. Other topics include sound, and the physics of work.

Environmental Science, Grade 12, General

Code: SEN 4GO

Topics include the study of soils, air quality, waste management, pest control, landscaping and ecosystems. This is a course that applies knowledge to the real world. Fieldwork is a mandatory component.

Geology, Grade 12, Advanced

Code: SGE 4AO

The fundamentals of geological science such as the earth, rocks, minerals and fossils are studied. Optional units could include topics such as time, mapping, the environment and glaciology. The emphasis in all cases will be toward Ontario or Canada as a whole.

Environmental Science, Grade 12, Advanced

Code: SEN 4AO

This course extends students' knowledge of environmental processes and issues. Topics include energy resources, air and water quality, genetics as applied to ecology, environmental health hazards and the effect of plants on the environment. Fieldwork is a mandatory component.

Science in Society, OAC, Advanced
