| Communications Program |
|
Students who have been formally identified as exceptional in this area will receive assistance through an individualized program structured to meet their needs. There are three types of programs available, depending on the level of assistance needed: Learning Strategies: Skills for Success in High School Learning Strategies will replace one of the eight credits offered in Grade 9. The course substituted will depend on the needs of the student. This course will assist the student with learning strategies such as organization, notetaking, metacognition, problem solving and test-taking. For students with specific literacy or numeracy deficits, activities will be aligned to meet this need. Resource Program In this program, the student determines when assistance for learning support is needed. An initial session will be held with the student support teacher to establish a line of communication and identify possible areas of remediation but generally, the student initiates requests for support. |
| Contact Program |

Students who have been identified as needing support to establish patterns of behaviour that allow for positive engagement in the learning process will access the Contact Program. |
| Vocational Program |
Students who have been formally identified as exceptional in this area will receive assistance in a practical four year program leading to the world of work. Courses taken will be at the applied, basic level.

| Independent Learning Centre |

Students who qualify for this program will work on independent courses with support from Turner Fenton staff. Students will be expected to pay a course fee of $30.00. A refund of $20.00 will be provided to successful students. |
| Specific Learning Disabilities / Self Help |
|
The Specific Learning Disabilities program offers support to students through flexible timetabling. Its aim is to meet individual needs. For students in year 1 it is preferred that the course run each day all year for forty minutes during lunch periods. Students in year 2, 3 and 4 who are also enrolled in the core program and are eligible for a credit will be timetabled for one period during the year. A student may earn a maximum of three credits towards a diploma. One of these may count as a compulsory English credit. |
