Analogy Assignment

Your assingment is to take a system and to make some analogies between it and a computer. You will need to draw a picture like the following using the graphic features in Java. Make sure that you include:

Investigation - Unit 0 Test

Analysis - Initial Direction Document

Choose one of the following systems:

Put a title on your analysis: Unit 2: Analysis for Computer Analogy

Using a chart evaluate 3-4 of the options above. Consider Input, Processing and Output in your system in your selection chart. Consider Polygon, Oval, Rectangle, Colour, Something New that you can add too. A system that allows you to use all of these things will be a good choice for your project.

Polygon Oval, Rectangle Colour, Font Something New Input, Processing, Output in system

Library
House of commons
Apartment

Based on your chart, make a choice. Write a sentence to explain your decision.

Do some basic research on the Internet regarding your choice. (If only to find some good pictures to use for your design). Source/reference these Webpages.

Point form is a wonderful communication tool.

Design - Rough Copy

Code - Actual Project

Last Term - Feel free to ignore this. I just don't want to loose it.

You’ve all seen biological diagrams such as:

Your first task is to find a biological diagram, source it and re-label it with parts of the computer system. You need to BRIEFLY justify each choice in the label.

An example of a new label that you might make is:

Brain/CPU – the CPU is the brain of the computer, it handles decisions and performs the calculations much like the brain.

Instead of each part being just labelled “BRAIN” or “EYE” as it was in the original diagram, it is labelled with three things:

You should be using synectics to help you make these analogies. BRAIN and CPU is actually a very boring match. CPU and FOOT, now, if you could come up with a convincing way to connect those two, that would be interesting. A suggested series of steps is to:

In this section you should include any and all of the input and output devices we learned in class. (printers, scanners, keyboards, mice, plotters, modems, CPU, BIOS, monitor, camera, ALU, motherboard, RAM, ROM, CD-Rom, Memory Stick etc.). You can also add things like paper and power cords to make your animal/computer analogy more interesting.
