Mad Libs

Mad Libs is a game where one person has a story with blanks in it. This is one that I play with my brownies at camp:

All of the girls rode to camp in a large <something that moves>. They sang many songs on the way to camp: An old <country name>, I’m slowly going <adjective>, Three blind <animal>, My <name of person at camp> Lies over the Ocean.

When they finally arrived, they were met by their leaders. They looked like <adjective> people. They told them the rules for camp. First, when the girls heard a <noise>, it was a fire alarm and they should stand on <place on site>. Second, the girls should always wear their <article of clothing> and <article of clothing>. When the girls went to the beach, they should always bring their <piece of luggage> and <piece of luggage>. Also, the girls should stay in the area around their <place on the campsite>, they shouldn’t wander off into the forest. Finally, it was important that the girls <verb> each night and not keep other up.

For dinner they had <something edible> and <something edible> with <something edible> on top. For dessert they had <something edible>. It was really delicious. They cooked it on the <something hot>. Many girls had never cooked anything that way before.

Then the girls played a game, it was called <noun>. One girl hid in the <place on the site> and another in the <something on the site>. It was <name of a girl> that won the game. The game lasted <number> hours.

The girls had a campfire where they roasted <noun, edible>. They really enjoyed eating them. <name of a girl> got a burn.

At <number between 1 and 12> o’clock, the girls went to bed. They looked forward to starting a new day at camp. The first person asleep was <name of a girl> and the last person was <name of a girl>.

Then, without revealing the story, the person asks for things to go in the blanks. For example, for the first part of the story the players would need to provide: <something that moves>, <country name>, <adjective>, <animal>, <name of person at camp> .

When all of the blanks are filled in by the players, the person running the game reads out the story. Depending on the answers, the first paragraph might become:

All of the girls rode to camp in a large turtle. They sang many songs on the way to camp: An old American, I’m slowly going Blue, Three blind Bats, My Elizabeth Lies over the Ocean.
