Turnitin.com Student Guide

The notes below are brief steps for using turnitin.com. If you want more, Student quickstart and Student User Manuals can be found at www.turnitin.com à training materials.

 

STEP I. Create a User Profile

1.       Go to www.turnitin.com

2.       Click on create a user profile (on the top right hand side of the screen)

3.       Provide your email address (This must be unique. Students can’t share.) Click next.

4.       Enter turner2 as your password. (the password is case sensitive, so type carefully)

5.       Confirm the password by entering turner2 again. Click next.

6.       Complete: First,Last name, and Country (ignore State selection). Click next.

7.       Set your user type to student. Click on next

8.       Read the user agreement and click on I agree to proceed or I disagree to cancel and stop the login process. You cannot use turnitin.com if you choose I disagree.

9.       You now have a user profile. Click return to login page.

 

STEP II. Enroll in a Class

1.       Go to www.turnitin.com

2.       Login by entering your email address and password as above. Click log in.

3.       Click on enroll in a class.

4.       Enter the following (as provided by your classroom teacher):

Class ID: ___________

CLASS ENROLLMENT PASSWORD: ____________

5.       Click submit. You are now enrolled in a class. Click logout.

 

SUBMIT ASSIGNMENTS

1.       Go to www.turnitin.com and login with your email addresss and password.

2.       Click on the class and then click on the submit icon next to the assignment you want.

3.       Choose the submit method by clicking on the down arrow next to submit a paper by.

4.       Enter only the author’s first and last name and the paper title. NO STUDENT NUMBER!

5.       Depending on the submit method you selected, open your paper from your disk and copy and paste it onto the submission window, or press BROWSE and select your Word document (Word works best). Click Submit. Your document will be displayed. Confirm that this is the correct document by pressing yes,submit (or no, goback to select a new document).

6.       Click logout

 

VIEW AND PRINT ORIGINALITY REPORTS (10minutes to 24 hours after submitting work)

1.       Login to www.turnitin.com. Select your class.

2.      Click on the report icon to the immediate left of your document in the contents column. Your originality report will be displayed. Note: originality reports are colour coded by percentage plagiarized: blue<20%, green 20-24%, yellow 25-49%, orange 50-74%, red 75-100%. Note: even quoted materials will show as copied. Don’t panic, just check that your quotations have been properly cited.

3.      Print the page. Close the window.

4.       Click logout.
